You will need to talk to your hosting provider to see what is going on with the mysql server.

Whenever you see this in an error message:

MySQL server has gone away

Means that the server's sql resources have dropped or were over loaded.  This is a hosting issue. If you tell your host that your are getting sql drops then they should be able to fix it pretty easy.

It really is a host issue not a script issue. If you host does not fix sql drops, then I would look for another host, ask specifically for high resource hosting.

Go to your cpanel > cron jobs

check if you have these 3 crons

Quote
/usr/bin/curl --silent http://www.domain.com/cron-ad-alert.php?pwd=password 2 > /dev/null

*/5   *   *   *   *

/usr/bin/curl --silent http://www.domain.com/pemailcron2.php?pwd=password 2 > /dev/null

*/10   *   *   *   *

/usr/bin/curl --silent http://www.domain.com/pemailcron.php?pwd=password 2 > /dev/null
